The origins of the Exotic shorthair are not coming from the imagination of some breeder who was maybe seeking for a short hair with a persian look, but it was established as a breed just because some circumstances made it the logical consequence.
In the early 60`, some american breeders of American Shorthair, in the attempt to improve the bone`s structure of the breed, introduced some crossing with persian.
The results overtook the aspectations and step by step, the "persian looking" was damaging the aspect of the American Shorthair because the cats were looking as a persian cat with short hair.
This is the reason that made the creation of a separate breed, the logical consequence.
In 1967 the Exotic Shorthair was allowed to attend to CFA shows and she performed immediately very well with Docia Dao`s Trilby a black smoke female who rappresent the first Exotic Shorthair who has got the title of Champion.
In Europe this breed was accepted just 1986 from FIFe and immediately appreciated.

Exotic cats are just persian with short hair meaning that they have the same characteristics and genetics but they miss the gorgeous long coat of persian.
Sometimes, when we look at a persian and its long coat, we forget its massive structure that become immediately visible in an exotic.
Short and cobby body on strong and short legs, short tail and well proportioned to rest of the body, round head with short noze, small ears and big round eyes.
The coat, although short, on winter time in enhanced by a generous undercoat very soft.

It is the ideal cat for people who is looking for a persian looking but without the need of the same care as a persian needs.

This doesn`t mean that the Exotic doesn`t need any care. Any cat need the normal care to keep it in good shape....a bath a month and the use to be brushed twice or three times a week, woill avoid a lot of death hairs and the first who would get benefit of it is the cat indeed! During the mute it must be brushed daily. Particolar care must be given to the eyes and theur cleaning that like in persian, is increased by the short noze and the restriction of the tear channels.

It behaves as a persian but with a spark more expecially in the colorpoint that having the siamese gene, are a bit more dinamic. It gets tied to the components of the family ant to the house in which it is living. It feels confortable at home but it like the life outdoor and it is an excellent mice hunter. It is very social with other ctas and with other pets as well. It is a strong and healty cat without particolar weakness in terms of the breed. It is strong and massive and it rarely gets sick. It is a middle size and it can weight around 4/5 kilo`s.
